40 day spending fast
Today marks day 1. I grew up in a Catholic home and the lenten fast was always front runner during the Easter season. Yes of course there was the fish thing on Friday, but more often than not I tried to come up with something to give up for the 40 days too. Sometimes it was candy, or soda and a variety of other things, but nothing like this one.
Yesterday I was reading a friends blog (Billy-check it out if you want to know more about lent-his blog is linked to mine) and it inspired me to really pray about giving something up in an effort to simplify and make more room for God to work in my life.
So after reading an article a few months ago about a woman who went on a spending fast, I decided to try it out. I am not quite sure I have nailed down the specifics yet...but I will keep you posted.
I think they will go something like this:
-No extra things for myself. (Clothes, shoes, books, magazines..etc)
-No mall lunches (Caleb and I frequent the Auntie Annes and chic-fil-et) or treats for me...although Ben has made it clear that he is not fasting and still wants to go out to dinner occassionally..
-Nothing extra from Walmart other than food and baby needs
As far as gifts and household needs I still am looking for a solution. I may try to come up with more creative money saving ideas on some other things in an effort to spend less.
what will I learn..I do not know. I feel strongly that this is what God wants me to do this year, but why...I do not know. So I am excited to see what he teaches me thru the fast. And the money I save...I don't even know yet how He wants me to spend that..
Oh, and in case you are wondering...I am going to post the things that I have had a temptation to buy so far:
1) Hair cut (i get my hair cut once a year and it is time....I will be waiting patiently for March 18th)
2) A book called the Not so Desperate House Wives that looks fun.
